Privacy Policy
In short: we don’t ask for your name or email to play, your game progress stays in your browser, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and we don’t sell your personal information.
This policy covers spellbeefree.com (“Spell Bee Free”, “we”, “us”).
Information stored on your device
Your found words, ranks, streaks, settings (such as dark mode) and unlimited games are saved in your browser’s local storage. That data stays on your device. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are popular, which devices people use and how visitors find us. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location (city or region), device and browser type, and referring site. We’ve turned off Google’s advertising features. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with Google’s browser opt-out add-on, and you can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/privacy.
Push notifications (optional)
If you choose to turn on notifications and allow them in your browser, your browser gives us a push subscription: a technical address at your browser’s push service plus encryption keys. We use it only to send puzzle and new-guide alerts. It doesn’t include your name or email. Turn it off any time with the Notifications link in the footer or in your browser settings.
Email and word suggestions
If you email us, or add your email to a word suggestion, we use your address only to reply. We don’t add you to a mailing list. Word suggestions (the word, letters and note) are stored so our editor can review them.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser, page requested, time) for security and troubleshooting. Logs are kept for a limited period.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you live in California, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, email hello@spellbeefree.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. We won’t discriminate against you for using these rights. Residents of other states with similar laws (for example Virginia, Colorado and Connecticut) can use the same email.
Children’s privacy
The game is suitable for all ages, but the site isn’t directed at children under 13 and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. Parents who believe a child has sent us personal information can email us and we’ll delete it.
Third-party services
- Google Analytics (see above).
- Google Fonts delivers our fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers.
- Dictionary links open Merriam-Webster in a new tab; their policy applies there.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
